Transfer Latest – Barcelona latest club linked with Celtic’s Josip Juranovic

The hype around Josip Juranovic is reaching fever pitch as wee slowly but surely make our way to the opening of the mid-season transfer window. Manchester United and Chelsea have already been linked with a move for the Croatian, and Newcastle boss, Eddie Howe is said to be an admirer also.

Now it has been reported that FC Barcelona are interested in Josip, following his World Cup exploits. The Catalonian’s are in the market for a new right-back, having saw their advances for Manchester United and Portugal star, Diogo Dalot rebuffed.

The full-back has garnered interest from various quarters as he put on a sizzling display versus the brilliance of Brazil in the World Cup Quarter-final on Friday. If he keeps it up at this rate, Celtic could well see his price-tag soar yet further still, in what would be excellent business for a man who cost a mere £2.5 million when he joined.

The latest report by Fichajes.net mentions that the La Liga giants are looking at possible alternatives to Dalot and also mentions former Tottenham Hotspur and current Villareal centre-back Juan Foyth.

It says:

“Barça must look for alternatives,” adding:

“The Portuguese right-handed side, Diogo Dalot, will renew in the long term with Manchester United. Therefore, FC Barcelona has no other than looking for alternatives to that defensive position. Bellerin will leave the club in the next market and the right side would stay ‘lamb due to the lack of players there. Other alternatives could be Juranovic or Juan Foyth. Exactly, negotiations for the Argentine player of the Villarreal took life a few days ago. However, the Barça must scratch his pocket to acquire a guarantee player in that position.”

Meanwhile the Celtic right back has been included in FIFA’s official Team of the Week from the World Cup in Qatar, arguably making Josip Juranovic the best right back in the World right now! Don’t forget incidentally that Legia Warsaw are likely to have a sell-on clause so will have an interest in the profit that Celtic make from this imminent transfer.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
