Transfer Latest: ‘Benvenuto’ – Hellas Verona FC take Oliver Abildgaard off Celtic’s hands

Italian Series A side Hellas Verona FC this evening formally announced the signing from Celtic of Danish midfielder Oliver Abildgaard who was on a season-long loan at Celtic from his parent club, Russian side Rubin Kazan.  The player’s agent has been busy trying to sort a deal to allow the player to cut short his time in Glasgow in order to get more first team football and with it match fitness.

That was not going to be on offer at Celtic so this move is clearly best for all parties.  The Serie A side have announced the signing via social media and also on their official website, with the translation into English reading something like this…

Danish addition in midfield: Oliver Abildgaard Nielsen is yellow and blue

Born in 1996, he grew up in the nursery of Aalborg, his hometown club, for which he wore the First Team shirt from 2016 to 2020, totaling 91 appearances, 4 goals and 3 assists.

In January 2020 he moved to Rubin Kazan, with whom he played in the following two and a half seasons, collecting 62 appearances, 1 goal and 5 assists between the Premier Liga (the top Russian series), the Russian Cup and the Conference League.

Celtic have also confirmed that the 26 year-old Danish international has left the club. A social media post on the club’s official account reads:

“Oliver Abildgaard’s temporary contract at Celtic FC has come to an end and he will see out the remainder of the season at Hellas Verona. Best of luck, Oliver!”

Don’t think we got the chance to see Oliver Abildgaard at his best but we certainly wish him all the best for his future career and hope he makes a real success of his time at Hellas Verona FC. Hopefully he can help get them out of relegation trouble.
