Transfer Latest – Besiktas join Celtic in race for Aissa Laidouni

Ange Postecoglou and Celtic must fend off interest from Turkey during the upcoming transfer window if they are to snap up Tunisia World Cup star, Aissa Laidouni. The big midfielder has had interest from Besiktas reported and they could be keen on rivalling the Hoops in a few weeks time.

According to bursadabugun.com, the Turkish giants hold a strong interest in Laidouni and have been watching him closely at the current winter World Cup in Qatar. They are keen on reinforcing the midfield area in their team and Ferencvaros midfielder, Laidouni, is of particular importance.

Aissa Laidouni

Like Celtic and any other team who wishes to claim the registration of the Tunisian, the Süper Lig side will have to pay the Hungarian’s €4 million if they are to part with the 25-year-old defensive midfielder. His display at the World Cup has certainly saw interest in him rise, just like Celtic’s Josip Juranovic. The club will of course want to achieve the highest fee possible for their man.

It’s an area of the park where the Bhoys really could do with a more physically imposing figure. The midfield is excellent and the return of Callum McGregor will be crucial in the Scottish Premiership. However, heading into next season and another go at Champions League football, we might want to improve the engine room’s physical aspect.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
