Transfer Latest – Bosun Lawal linked with Brentford, Pisa and Verona

Yesterday it was a story about Stephen Welsh attracting interest from the likes of Porto, today it’s another young Celtic defender who is the subject of transfer speculation with Brentford being credited with an interest in the highly rated Bosun Lawal with a couple of Italian outfits also mentioned as interested parties chasing the Irish youth international central defender.

The 19 year-old travelled to both Australia and the winter training camp in Portugal with the Celtic first team squad and was an unused substitute at the weekend up at Pittodrie as Celtic hit the ground running after the break for the World Cup with a 1-0 win which restored the nine points lead at the top of the league, looking down on theRangers.

Today the Daily Mail reports that Brentford, Pisa and Verona are the three clubs interested in the versatile Celtic defender who has been outstanding in the Celtic B team this season.

Celtic signed Lawal from Watford, where he captained their youth team, in 2019 and former Vicarage Road captain Troy Deeney had this to say about Lawal: “He’s got a little bit of [Abdoulaye] Doucoure about him. He can got passed people effortlessly and keep striding, he has that big long stride. I think there’s not many young players that catch your eye and you think ‘he’s going to have a career’, but he certainly does that.”

After the frustration of losing Ben Doak to Liverpool earlier this year – he just didn’t want to stay at Celtic his agent and former Celtic captain Jackie McNamara admitted – Ange Postecoglou will not be looking at losing another Celtic B team star just as he’s about to break into the first team.
