Transfer Latest – Celtic bid for South Korean attacker Yang Hyun-Jun

After the signing of Odin Thiago Holm on a five-year-deal to kick-off Irishman Brendan Rodgers’ second spell in charge of the Hoops, news has been circulating of someone else that the Bhoys have had their eyes’ on and have already bid for. The player in question is another Asian-based commodity in the form of right-winger, Yang Hyun-Jun.

According to reports in the player’s homeland, Celtic have been tracking the Gangwon FC wide-man with a view to bringing him to Glasgow in the near future. The K-League star is a member of the South Korean U23’s squad and has lately been called up by Jurgen Klinsmann to the first-team, but he has yet to make his debut for the national side.

The 21-year-old is said to keen on joining fellow countryman Oh Hyeon-gyu in Glasgow’s East End but that his club are determined not to lose him as they sit in the midst of a relegation battle. He’s scored one and assisted another so far in this season for his current employers and it looks like they could play hardball over a potential Celtic swoop as they would want him back on-loan.

It’s clearly not going to be a move that suits Celtic or Brendan Rodgers who will want his squad ready and raring to go as soon as the new season comes around. With UEFA Champions League group stages football to be played too, it’s hard to see the Hoops wanting to agree to such a deal with Liel Abada’s future still uncertain according to sources.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
