Celtic have reportedly set their sights on making a move for Armenian playmaker, Eduard Spertsyan, who currently plies his trade in Russia with Krasnodar. The Hoops are no strangers to the Russian top flight, having purchased both Carl Starfelt and Sead Hakšabanović respectively, from Rubin Kazan a few seasons back when Ange Postecoglou was in charge at the club.
It would seem that the Bhoys are eager to dip their toes back into that market if this recent report in the Daily Record is anything to go by. It states that Spertsyan had been scouted by a number of European clubs, including Ajax of the Netherlands and Newcastle United of the English Premier League. However, nothing has changed in regard his situation and it would appear that with two years remaining on his current deal and the embargo placed upon Russia, due to the war in Ukraine, Celtic may have an opportunity to snatch the midfielder for a knock-down price.
A £13 million move to the Tyneside outfit had been mooted and that would put Brendan Rodgers and his club well out of reach for the Armenian. Although if Newcastle interest has cooled ahead of the summer transfer window and with the man himself angling for a move to European football, it could bode well for the Irishman and his plans to reinforce the squad when it comes to the 23-year-old Spertsyan.
His countries star man, Eduard has previously been quoted as saying of his own personal desire to play in Europe: “Yes I want to play in Europe soon, but I know I’ve got to fight and work for it. I don’t want to leave here by running away or with a helicopter! I like being at Krasnodar, but I want to try to go to Europe while I have the chance, I don’t know what can happen there. I’m confident and I think I can achieve even bigger goals.”
