Transfer Latest – Celtic linked to Panathinaikos’ Dimitrios Kourbelis

A report has claimed that Celtic could be interested Panathinaikos captain, Dimitrios Kourbelis. This comes from Football Scotland and they have claimed that the midfielder is being tracked by Celtic ahead of a potential summer transfer window move for the 29-year-old.

The reports in Greece have named Celtic as one of the clubs in the race for his signature as he is available on a free transfer at the end of the season The report says:

‘The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and reports in Greece suggest …Celtic are interested in bringing him to Scotland for next season. The midfielder, who can also play at centre back, is yet to sign a new deal with his club and is reportedly considering leaving the Athens outfit as he looks for a new challenge.

‘He’s been at the club for seven years but missed more than a year with injury after suffering a hip problem. The skipper bounced back and has made himself a key player again at the club but he was sent off earlier this month after two yellow cards in seven minutes and fined £20,000 by his club.’

In all honesty, we can file this one under ‘highly unlikely’, considering the amount of high quality midfielders we have at our disposal at present. Reo Hatate is a dream, Aaron Daddy Cool Mooy is marvellous, Matt O’Riley is top drawer, and Callum McGregor is imperious at the moment. It’s difficult to see why Ange Postecoglou would be interested in this particular player.

Any prospective move will be for free agents such as this, whilst no doubt agents want to throw our name into the hat to make it look like there is quality interest in his client.

Can’t see this one having any validity to it whatsoever.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
