Transfer Latest – Celtic offered Serie B star Charles Pickel

Celtic have been offered the chance to sign Serie B star Charles Pickel, according to a report has emerged today. The Cremonense midfielder plays in the Italian second division and plays primarily in a defensive-midfield role, although he has been known to occupy both right-back and attacking-midfield on occasion when needed.

Football Scotland is now reporting that they have been briefed about the emerging situation, as the Hoops have been scouring the market place for a player of that profile.

It is said that Brendan Rodgers and the recruitment team at Celtic Park have put the word out far and wide that the Bhoys will indeed be looking for a proper sitting midfielder this summer and Pickel’s name has emerged as a possible option.

The Irishman will be undertaking quite the revamp of the Celtic squad this close season, having been let down horrendously in both the January transfer window and last summer’s when he arrived back from England with Leicester City. With a whole host of players being deemed surplus to requirements and others badly needing a loan spell away for game time, it promises to be busy.

Matt O’Riley is fully expected to leave the club once an appropriate bid falls on Brendan Rodgers’ table up at Lennoxtown, whilst Paulo Bernardo’s future is up in the air at the minute, with Celtic reluctant to pay the reported £6 million it would take to prise him away from Benfica.

That leaves the manager with some gaping holes in the middle of the park and with us not having really replaced Aaron Mooy and his vital experience, on top of injuries this year, it simply must be addressed moving forward.

OVER ON CELTIC SHORTS…Three Games from the Verge of Glory for Elena Sadiku’s Celtic side

About Author

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.

  1. Wouldn’t be buying into that whatsoever imo?
Would agree that the midfield areas, along with a few other positions need to be addressed during the summer.
Thinking that we will be looking at potentially 7 midfield players next season, if we are going to keep the current structure of the squad intact?
So, if we were to stick with the current format, then would be confident enough that Calmac, Hatate, Iwata and Kelly would still remain in the plans of Rodgers, if he himself remains as manager?
Think Holm will be for a season loan move imo?
Decisions awaits upon the futures of Oreily and Paulo with the club still?
So could we be looking at 1 or maybe another 3 midfield players?
We know that we didn’t have a backup right attacking midfield player this season, hence Oreily playing as much game time as he has done so far this campaign?
Certainly this position has to be addressed as our main priority in the midfield areas imo?
Even if Paulo is potentially looked upon as a possible replacement for Oreily?
It still leaves ourselves with a backup option as such?
Also, I can’t see the calmac role changing either, and haven’t got any problems with iwata filling in with calmac to manage the minutes better between them within the position?
Potentially Kelly and Hatate in the left midfield attacking areas Wouldn’t be the worst of available options either?
Would be great to get ourselves another versatile midfield player with a bit of experience in playing with what the demands of the big club entails?
Wouldn’t have any problems if we were to invest within Paulo?
Actually think he’s a Rodgers type of midfield players with the controlled possession based game Rodgers is trying to introduce into ourselves imo?
Preferably scenario is only 1 midfield player was required, but somehow can’t see the midfield areas being resolved as straight forward as that all the same imo?
