Transfer Latest – Celtic send B Team star Ben Wylie out on loan to Airdrie

Airdrie FC today confirmed that they have concluded a loan deal with Celtic for Irish midfielder Ben Wylie, who was one of the star performers in the Celtic B team’s debut season in the Lowland League last year. Wylie recently signed a new contract at Celtic so this move can be seen as being very much part of his football development.

The League One side announced the signing, which is still subject to SFA clearance, on their official website earlier today.

The Airdrie FC signing announcement reads as follows:

We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Ben Wylie, who joins the club on loan subject to SFA approval. 20 year-old Wylie joined Celtic in 2018 and has been a regular start for the Glasgow club’s B-team since progressing from the Under 17s.

The attacking midfielder has also represented Northern Ireland at U15, U17, U19 and U21 levels and previously spent time on loan with his hometown team, Ballymena United.

Joining up with the Diamonds for training, Ben told airdriefc.com: “The manager brought it across to me that they play nice football. Brody Paterson, Jon Afolabi and Kerr McInroy were all here last season and they’ve all went on to do good things off coming to Airdrie.

“I have a hunger to win, and I want to win every week!”

Manager Rhys McCabe added: “Ben is a talented midfielder who loves to get forward and join the attack. We’re delighted to bring him in, and we look forward to him further strengthening our attacking options.”

Welcome to the Diamonds, Ben!
