Transfer Latest: Reported Celtic interest in Algerian star Zinedine Ferhat

According to Footmercato.net, Celtic retain an interest in Algerian playmaker, Zinedine Ferhat. The news comes after Ange Postecoglou confirmed that he would be signing three players from the J-League, including his former striker, Daizen Maeda. All three will arrive in Glasgow in the coming days to sign on the dotted line.

This new story is somewhat short and sweet, claiming that both Celtic and Montpellier are wanting to take the player away from Nîmes this winter transfer window. Ferhat has made 12 appearances for Algeria in his career, whilst this season he has only appeared 8 times for his club in France.

The report also mentions that the 28-year-old attacking midfielder is attracting admiring glances from AS Saint Étienne but that his low cost appeal is making Celtic take a closer look at him. It says:

“At the end of the contract next June, Zinedine Ferhat is more than ever leaving Nîmes this winter. It now remains to know the future destination of the player. The Algerian international (12 caps) who had remained in spite of himself in the Gard last summer therefore remained with the Crocos this season (8 appearances)

“Courted by Montpellier, then more recently at AS Saint-Étienne, the 28-year-old attacking midfielder also pleases abroad. According to our information, Celtic Glasgow’s profile and low cost appeal a lot. The current Glasgow Rangers (sic) runner-up in the Scottish League could jump at the chance during the month of January.”

Perhaps another low-risk/high reward venture from Ange and Michael Nicholson now that David Turnbull is out for some time? Probably best to file this one under ‘highly unlikely” though.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
