“Treated like muck yet again”: Celtic fans react to Sturgeon’s announcement

The news coming out of Holyrood this afternoon is that the majority of social distancing laws are set to be abolished in Scotland for the first time since the pandemic started; except one, vital thing that affects everyone reading this.

Despite minor restrictions being kept, such as masks indoors – which is but a small inconvenience – the news was, on the whole, good. Yet, Nicola Sturgeon’s fifth point brought about a wild reaction from the majority of Scots – as only 5,000 fans are allowed to outdoor events unless the local council grants permission.

It shows a real lack of backbone from government officials, who have so to speak ‘dangled the carrot’ in front of football fans with the mouth-watering return to Scottish grounds for months, only to back out at the last minute.

And fans were less than impressed, letting rip at those in power for denying them their first return to Celtic Park in over a year.

However, despite the bad news, some fans saw the glass as half empty with the return of something that most of us haven’t seen in 15 months – including those who got the ballot.

With away days set to return – albeit to an incredibly small minority – it does offer some hope; but fans not being allowed into Celtic Park at full capacity is ridiculous. When will it change?

  1. This is what many of you are pushing for when you scream independence!
The country does not have the people in power to go independent!
It was always a bigotted country, is a bigotted country and will always be a bigotted country!

    • What is it about applying for permission you do understand Joe. As far as I’m aware every club will have to apply for permission……where is the bigotry in that?

Comparing going to Tesco with going to the fitba is a silly false equivalence. You don’t see folk shouting, singing or jumping about celebrating and hugging each other in the aisles atTesco . HH 🍀

    • No, it has bigots like you in it mainly in Glasgow, I think the majority of Scots want independence to get away from the post Brexit fascist state that bigoted idiots like you support.

Should Celtic not have fought harder to get some tickets for tynecastle last weekend? Did anyone else see how many hibs fans were allowed in to fir park on Sunday and certainly didn’t look like any social distance was observed in the away end, yet we got nothing and accepted that decision, i hope we reciprocate when jambos come to us next week in the cup

  3. “Treated like muck” ? What is it about applying for permission. Are Celtic somehow incapable of doing that ? Gie’s peace we’ve got enough to worry about.
