Tremendous Scenes As Willie Maley Statue Is Unveiled

Newry co Down witnessed incredible scenes on Saturday afternoon as ‘the man who made Celtic’, William Patrick Maley, was immortalised in brass and stone in his Irish hometown.

Thousands of fans turned up to witness the statue unveiling, led by local Republican flute bands. Speeches were delivered by guests and former players revealed the statue.

What a fantastic monument to possibly the greatest and most influential Celt.

  2. A great tribute to Mr Maley from our cousins in Newry. Don’t think it is a coincidence when he stepped down lean times ensued. Shout out to the sculptor, they done a great job with the statue. Pretty sure I read somewhere Willie was a supporter of the royal family, matters not to me if he was or not, not even sure if it is true, but if it is I would find it a bit funny to be honest, one of our greatest managers ( between him and Jock as it stands ) was a supporter of the royal family. Another reason why our at times crazy club is like no other hail hail.
