Fran Alonso’s Celtic FC Women side flew out to Trondheim this morning ahead of tomorrow afternoon’s historic occasion for our football club. The match against high quality Spanish opposition, Levante will be Celtic’s first ever appearance in the Women’s Champions League.
Celtic warmed up with a 2-0 home win over Hearts in the SWPL Cup on Sunday and Alonso told the Celtic fan media that his side has been working hard preparing for this match for the past six weeks.
Alonso, as you can see from the image below, is currently on his way to Norway – incidentally check out the social distancing on the plane – and he will be speaking to the Celtic Fan Media later this afternoon alongside one of his players (at the moment we don’t know who that will be).
The club announced details last night on how supporters can watch this match tighter with the second game in this mini-group stage format of round 1 qualifying on Saturday against either Rosenberg and FC Minsk.
The Celtic v Levante opener takes place tomorrow (18 August) with a 5pm kick-off and the winners will play the winners of the Rosenborg v FC Minsk match on Saturday 21 August again with a 5pm kick-off. The two losing sides on the opening day will face each other on Saturday. The overall winner of the mini group will then move through to Round 2 of qualifying.
If you are based in the UK or Ireland the full match against Levante will be shown LIVE on BBC Alba and also on Premier Sports. Celtic TV viewers outside Britain and Ireland will also be able to see the game against the Spanish side as part of their current subscription.
