Two loanees recalled amid isolation fiasco

Celtic have recalled youth players Scott Robertson and Ross Doohan from their loans spells at Gillingham and Ross County respectively, as the impact that the whirlwind fiasco surrounding the COVID-19 breach has had on Celtic after their trip to Dubai rages on.

Following the 1-0 derby loss last weekend, Celtic officials bizarrely took up the idea of a week’s break – choosing to fly out to Dubai for a rest given the tough start to the season the club had endured. Obviously, this would be fine in any other year, but with the knowledge that much of the world is in turmoil due to COVID-19 restrictions, it was an incredibly strange time to take the majority of the first team onboard and away to the Middle East.

What is even more baffling is that Christopher Jullien – ruled out of action for three months after picking up an injury against Dundee United in late December – was the only player who tested positive of those who went to Dubai, meaning that thirteen players and two staff members had to isolate as a result. With Neil Lennon being one of those, alongside a large rumoured list, Celtic’s shambolic January became even worse as their first team have now had to miss out for no apparent reason.

Robertson, a nineteen-year-old left-back who had made fifteen appearances for League One Gillingham this season, has seen his spell in Kent cut short, whilst 22-year-old Doohan leaves behind four other Ross County player named ‘Ross’ in Dingwall after a largely absent loan spell in the Highlands where he made just five appearances.
