Two sides competing for the signature of Celtic midfielder

Two Israeli sides are competing for the signature of Celtic midfielder Ismaila Soro. The Ivorian centre-mid has been told that he is not part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans for the new season and he was not present on the trips to Portugal and Japan.

Now, Beitar Jerusalem and league runners-up Hapoel Be’er Sheva are battling it out to sign the 25-year-old. According to The Scottish Sun, Soro might be able to strike a deal with Celtic to enable the player to leave for nothing and attract more opportunities.

Soro spent last season on loan with Portuguese side Arouca during the 2022/23 season and it was clear that Ange didn’t fancy the player. Now, new manager Rodgers appears to be set to sell the player.

The player has made 43 appearances since joining in January 2020 with 19 of these coming last season, Soro was often erratic in the centre of the midfield. With Callum McGregor, Odin Thiago Holm, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and David Turnbull as well as the latest arrival of Busan I-Park midfielder Kwon Hyeok-kyu.

The fact that the player did not go on pre-season with the team in Japan suggested that a deal was close to being completed with Greek side Panathinaikos reportedly keen on signing the player but a deal fell through.

Good luck to the player and hopefully Celtic can recoup some of the outlay that was paid to Israeli side Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv or if it is a case of cutting our losses, it happens sooner rather than later.
