UEFA confirm Celtic’s Champions League squad

Celtic’s Champions League squad has been confirmed ahead of the Group Stages beginning this week. After the excellent 4-0 win over Rangers on Saturday, attention quickly turns to Tuesday’s Champions League opener against the Spanish and European Champions, Real Madrid.

The squad list, as published by UEFA, contained no real shocks with Ange Postecoglou making room for new signings Sead Haksabanovic and Oliver Abildgaard, who arrived recently from Rubin Kazan. There is no room for Yosuke Ideguchi, who has struggled to make an impact since arriving at the club. However, James McCarthy has been named in the squad – which may relate to the fact he was trained domestically.

The full squad list consists of 25 players, as a minimum, eight of those 25 places are reserved exclusively for ‘locally trained players’.

Goalkeepers:

Joe Hart, Benjamin Siegrist and Scott Bain

Defenders:

Greg Taylor, Carl Starfelt, Moritz Jenz, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alexandro Bernabei, Reo Hatate, Tony Ralston, Stephen Welsh and Josip Juranovic.

Midfielders:

Kyogo Furuhashi, Sead Haksabanovic, Liel Abada, Aaron Mooy, James McCarthy, Oliver Abildgaard, Matt O’Riley, Callum McGregor and James Forrest.

Forwards:

Giorgos Giakoumakis, David Turnbull, Jota, Daizen Maeda.

After Tuesday’s showpiece opener, Celtic will then face Shakhtar Donestk in Warsaw. Then comes the head-to-head with RB Leipzig before the Ukrainians visit Glasgow ahead of the final game at the Bernabeu.
