Video: Deila Delight As Kris Commons’ Sensational Strike Sinks Glasgow Rivals

On this day in 2015, Celtic faced lower league Rangers in the Semi Final of the Scottish League Cup. Of the 22 men who took to the field at the start of the match, six years ago, only two remain with their respective clubs today (Nir Bitton and Leigh Griffiths).

The game got off to the perfect start for Ronny Deila’s team as Leigh Griffiths scored a header in the tenth minute. Deila’s opposite number, Kenny McDowall would soon have his misery compounded as the ball broke to Kris Commons 25 yards from goal. The Englishman, who had a strained relationship with his manager, took full advantage of being handed a rare start. Indeed, as the ball arrived at his feet he took a touch to kill it before larruping a shot into the top corner. Cue bedlam around one half of Hampden as the Celtic end erupted and Commons wheeled away in celebration!

The score line stayed that way as Celtic cruised to a 2-0 victory, a result that they replicated in the Final against Dundee United to hand Ronny Deila his first piece of silverware as a manager in Scotland.
