Celtic were given the lead by an excellent header from Luke McCowan. Upon his return to Dens Park, McCowan continued his excellent form in Tayside by starting a move by sweeping the ball out to Greg Taylor at left back.
Taylor, on his 200th appearance for the club, whipped a lovely ball into the box for McCowan who headed the ball across goal and left Trevor Carson with no chance.

Later in the half, Celtic’s other fullback and midfielder combined but the header came off the bar. Alistair Johnston crossed the ball into the path of Paulo Bernardo but the Portuguese U21 star saw his header come back off the crossbar.
