Video – Exclusive interview with Celtic’s title winning hero Amy Gallacher

Amy Gallacher spoke exclusively to The Celtic Star earlier today. With Celtic FC Women’s greatest achievement – the SWPL1 trophy – in sight, our star forward recalled how she felt after scoring the winning goal against Hibs and spoke about Elena Sadiku’s Champions League ambitions…

Looking back on her season as a whole, she looks back and gives thanks to the managers who have trusted her enough to start her, also giving her thoughts on if the title victory will spur Celtic on to win more silverware.

Touching on that final game of the season, she reveals that the squad were holding out hope for a late winner but that there may have been that feeling that the title was slipping from the Ghirls.

You can watch the interview with Amy in full below.

Celtic title winning hero Amy Gallacher has been nominated for the Scottish Women’s Premier League May Player of the Month award. Amy rounded off a fantastic campaign with a title-winning goal at Celtic Park, so she is certainly a worthy contender for the award.

Amy Gallacher opened her account for the month on the 12 May with a nice strike against Partick Thistle. In front of a good crowd at the Excelsior, Murphy Agnew rolled the ball to the nominee, who tapped it into the net, a good striker makes it look simple, getting into the right place at the right time but it’s remarkable how few actually achieve it if it’s that simple!

She set us up for the title dream as she secured a second goal in the capital for the Celts against Hearts. Caitlin Hayes sent a corner over to Gallacher who struck with the outside of her foot to double her side’s lead, and effectively made the vital three points safe.

Then, in front of 7,624 Celtic supporters on Sunday ,  Amy Gallacher showed so much craft and composure in the box to fire it home in the 90th minute to secure the SWPL title for the Hoops and create another magical moment for both the Gallacher family and of course the Gallacher family with that goal being so similar to the legendary Scottish Cup winning goal by Patsy Gallacher, her great grandfather, in the 1925 final.

Patsy Gallacher

You couldn’t really ask for more from your star player, could you? This has been a standout campaign for the great granddaughter of Patsy Gallacher. Having secured her services until 2027, we have a fantastic player who will be key to whatever silverware we may win next season.

The other nominees for the POTM award are Hibs’ Jorian Baucom, theRangers’ Victoria Essen (with the sad face) and Montrose’s Jade McLaren.

The Celtic support just has to get voting on this NOW!

And earlier this week The Celtic Star, always the champion of Celtic FC Women, spoke to Head Coach Elena Sadiku with the SWPL1 by her side in the Boardroom at Celtic Park. If you’re on the excellent Celtic Stadium Tour make sure you look out for the trophy that’s making it’s first but certainly not last appearance in the trophy cabinets.
