Video: Former Celtic defender highlights Brendan Rodgers depth issues

Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson has correctly identified that the club’s current run of form has been dictated by a lack of depth. Celtic are now five points clear of Rangers, who have a game in hand (at home to St Johnstone, after Sunday’s defeat at Kilmarnock.

The fullback-turned-pundit told Sky Sports that Brendan Rodgers’ second XI doesn’t come close to matching the quality of his first XI, if everyone is fit and firing.

Celtic have struggled with absences so far this year with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki, Reo Hatate, Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda all having spells out injured. The issue that Wilson raises is that for such a large squad, there isn’t nearly enough quality. Rodgers has bemoaned the lack of quality on a number of occasions with regards to Europe but in the league, it is also showing.

The manager has said that they are looking to do business in January and add quality. The only thing is, Rangers will arrive on the 30th knowing a win can take them top if they win all their games until then. The manager needs a response from his team and it’ll need to be against Feyenoord.
