Scott Brown distances himself from Celtic return

Former Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has downplayed the prospect of returning to the club in a coaching role. The club legend has also been linked with the Queen’s Park vacancy but with Harry Kewell’s rumoured move to Yokohama F Marinos, Brown has been touted as a potential replacement.

Brown departed his first managerial position at Fleetwood Town earlier this year but has said that he was eager to get back into the dugout as a manager after tasting the other side of the game but wasn’t rushing into anything.

While promoting the Viaplay Cup Final at the weekend, Brown downplayed the possibility of joining up with Brendan Rodgers again.

I” don’t know. I am quite enjoying my time off at this moment in time, especially with the festive period.

“I loved my time at Celtic, I honestly did. It was a fantastic time. I went away to try and learn a lot for myself, to have that understanding of being a manager. I think I want to go down that route again if I get that opportunity.

“But I am in no rush to dive back into something at this moment in time. I am going to take time, chill, see my kids who I have probably not seen in the last three years and watch them play football over the winter in the lovely rain.”

With Kewell moving on, Celtic should replace him with another attacking coach. The Australian has been a hit with the wide players since arriving in the summer of 2022 but it was clear that the ex-Liverpool and Leeds attacker would be stepping out as a manager at some stage again.

Meanwhile for Brown, he will be continually linked with vacancies in Scotland and England but you would imagine that he will not rush back into something if it’s not right for him. The Spiders’ gig might suit him but it would return him to Scottish football where the glare would be on him. The domineering midfielder on his day bowed out at Celtic after 620 appearances, 46 goals and 22 trophies in the Green and White.
