Video: Former Celts that didn’t make the grade combine for MLS goal

Former Celtic duo Patryk Klimala and Andrew Gutman combined for New York Red Bull. Klimala was one of the first casualties of the Celtic rebuild this summer. The Polish striker joined from Jagiellonia Bialystock in January 2020 for around £3.5m and was sold on for roughly the same fee to the MLS side. Tipped as the ‘Polish Jamie Vardy’, Celtic didn’t get the best out of Klimala and now he appears to be settled in the ‘Big Apple’.

The goal decided the game against Inter Miami, which takes the Red Bulls into touching distance of the play-off places for the Eastern Conference. Klimala will be hoping to replicate this form next week as they place Ronny Deila’s New York City.

Gutman, meanwhile, never really had a chance in Glasgow. Red tape prevented him getting a game for Celtic but as one of Brendan Rodgers’ last signings, it was as if he was a project signing that never really worked out. It is good to see him doing well in the USA.
