Video: Fran Alonso’s ‘Just Keep Winning’ Message as Celtic Boss Eyes SWPL Title Challenge

Celtic FC Women, it’s fair to say were hugely disappointed by their own performance against league leaders Glasgow City in the first game back after the extended winter shutdown. It would have been easy for heads to drop after that 3-0 home defeat, for confidence to be shattered and for players to retreat into their shells, secretly believing that they just weren’t good enough to fight for the title against serial winner Glasgow City and the big spending theRangers.

Did that happen? Well no it didn’t actually. Instead Alonso’s side started winning and haven’t stopped since. And that of course included that famous old win over theRangers at Celtic Park – the match where various sites and podcasts were allowed admittance but The Celtic Star who have covered the women’s game faithfully and enthusiastically were not invited. Probably something we’ve said...

Still when Celtic need another favour – usually of a hard hitting nature – they’ll know where to go…

Alonso’s side wanted to win all these games so that they’ll get the chance for retribution in the third and final match of the season against Glasgow City. Glasgow won 2-0 at theRangers Training Ground at the weekend, with Celtic beating Motherwell 3-0 the Hoops were able to jump into second place in the table and that is a Champions League spot. However a win at K-Park tomorrow night against Glasgow would reduce the gap at the top of the table to just two points and would mean that Glasgow City would have to avoid defeat against theRangers, the only side who have taken points off them this season.

What does it all mean? At this stage Celtic are contenders. If they win tomorrow we’re serious contenders not only for that second money spinning Champions League spot but also for the SPWL title itself.

As always you’ll get a match report and full coverage of tomorrow’s game on The Celtic Star, as indeed has happened all season…

Here’s Fran Alonso talking about the opportunity his side has tomorrow night…
