Video: Giakoumakis misses penalty after Celtic awarded first spot kick since April

Giorgos Giakoumakis missed from the penalty spot as the Greek striker’s effort hit the post. The centre-forward, who scored midweek against Shakhtar, had just replaced Kyogo when he was given the ball with Jack Hamilton to beat.

Jota was involved earlier by winning a penalty, his cross was deflected by Shinnie’s arm and the referee Willie Collum, to his credit, stated that he couldn’t see it so deferred it to the VAR.

A year ago today, Giakoumakis missed a penalty against the hosts at Celtic Park and he stepped up again. However, it was the same result as his penalty kissed the outside of the post and went out. The player will be disappointed.

This is Celtic’s first penalty of the season and actually the first since April, a staggering statistic.

  1. Just a quick question? Did any Livingston players encroach at the penalty kick ? From pictures it looks like it.
