Video: Henrik Larsson Joins Celtic 23 Years Ago Today

There are no words to describe Henrik Larsson’s contribution to Celtic and the King of Kings needs no introduction. Being voted the second greatest player in the club’s history and described as irreplaceable by the hierarchy at Barcelona speaks for itself, as does the Champions League, Premier League, La Liga and SPL winner’s medals that Larsson has collected over the years.

He is arguably the greatest Celtic hero since the Lisbon Lions and certainly since Kenny Dalglish.

It was on this day 23 years ago that Henrik signed for Celtic, joining from Feyenoord for £650,000. He scored 242 goals for the Hoops in 315 games and set the record for goals scored by a player for a Scottish club in Europe.

In 2004 he was voted as the greatest Swedish footballer of all time.

His Celtic career began shakily with an own goal in Europe and being at fault for a defeat against Hibs. In contrast, he scored one the day we stopped the ten, in the UEFA Cup final and many other huge games.

The following video reflects the circumstances in which the King of Kings arrived in Glasgow and how he became a Scottish football legend:
