Playing three at the back has become a lot more fashionable in recent years, but you need certain types of players to make it work.
The biggest problems will come if you allow your wing backs to become overloaded, because it means they can get dragged out of position or the central players have to come wide to help, and that creates a weakness on the other side.

You also need to have defenders who are willing to step out from the back and provide an attacking threat from a deeper area, and Kristoffer Ajer does bring that for Celtic.
