Video: “It definitely fires up the players,” Fran Alonso Hits Back at ‘Two Horse Race’ Hacks’ Claim

Fran Alonso had a bit of a rant at the media and various other commentators for writing his Celtic FC Women side off as no-hopers as they declared it a two horse race between Glasgow City and theRangers. The Spaniard has his say today after his exciting young Celtic side responded at Celtic Park on Wednesday night with a splendid 1-0 win over the big spending Ibrox club.

Mariah Lee’s 80th minute winner was enough to separate the sides and give Alonso’s side their second consecutive win against theRangers this season.  Here is the Celtic manager speaking to the BBC at today’s Media Conference ahead of Sunday’s home match against Hibs at K-Park  in East Kilbride. Kick-off is at 4-10pm.

No idea why Celtic are not playing this match at Celtic Park on a much better surface – lush grass rather than the horrible plastic – and the team clearly got a buzz from playing in Paradise.  It’s not as if there’s a game on there this weekend.

The Celtic Star were invited along to day’s Media Conference but declined the invitation, as we await a reply from the club as to why we were excluded from attending the Glasgow Derby on Wednesday despite providing the Celtic FC Women’s side with comprehensive support all season and before that too.

We”ll still be supporting our Ghirls in Green though. Hibs were ahead against league leaders Glasgow City in midweek before losing 2-1 the winner coming from the spot after a very soft penalty was awarded. Celtic thumped them 6-2 in the first meeting of the season – when Hibs played particularly well in the first half but devastating counter attacking football from the Hoops meant that the score at the break was Hibs 1 Celtic 5. So on Sunday, make no mistake, they are on a revenge mission. Should be some game.
