Video: Leigh Griffiths scores stunning free-kick for loan club

Leigh Griffiths smashed a stunning free-kick for Dundee this afternoon. The Celtic striker turned out for James McPake’s COVID-19 stricken side as they faced Stephen Glass’ Aberdeen at Pittodrie. Despite having to make up the bench with Assistant Manager Dave Mackay and a number of youngsters, Griffiths fired the Dee ahead with spectacular free-kick from long range.

The player, who scored 123 goals for Celtic, will know that there is almost no chance of him being offered anything going forward by Celtic and the fact that Dundee are not using him despite their struggles for goals is telling. He has been offered a number of chances in recent times but fitness issues have left him struggling for game time. The sideshow regarding his Instagram amplified concerns about whether Griffiths would take Celtic battle for the league seriously sparking a loan move just weeks after the decision to offer him an extension.

  1. Griffiths is the one player we could be doing with today!
He was first very poorly managed by lying Rodgers, then by a more committed Lennon, and even moreso by Ange, who’s pig-headedness has cost us vital points while we have played with a real forward in games this year.
There’s no doubt Griffiths has issues, but he scores goals better than anyone we have, yes, even Kyogo.
Jock Stein knew how to handle toubled players and managed to get two seasons extra out of Jinky and George Connolly.
We have lost a goal machine.
