Video: Motherwell ace Blair Spittal on why he voted Reo Hatate for POTY

Motherwell midfielder Blair Spittal has been speaking to the media about why he decided to vote for Reo Hatate as his Player of the Year. The two teams met last Saturday in Glasgow’s East End but the midfielder never had the pleasure of facing off against the Japanese international as he was still out injured, following the match against Hibs in March.

However, Spittal would have seen the diminutive powerbomb in full flow this season at various points – either watching from the sides or directly against him. The midfielder put on a masterclass performance against Motherwell in the Viaplay League Cup back in October, as the Fir Park side were blown away by his creativity and ingenuity. He scored a contender for goal of the season, when he rolled the ball from one foot to the other in front of the goalkeeper before passing it into the net.

His displays haven’t been contained to cup foot all by any stretch of the imagination and that’s the exact point the Scottish midfielder alluded to during his press conference. It’s the consistency of Hatate and his teammates which has been awesome to watch as the Hoops march on towards another League trophy and perhaps a Treble. There are other names that Spittal says he could have voted for in this team, but that the exceptional Hatate is the winner for him.

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
