Video – My ‘Honest Mistake’ remark edited out by Celtic PR from Jodie Bartle Media Conference

Yesterday the Celtic Fans media plus a reporter from Scottish TV spoke to Celtic defender Jodie Bartle ahead of Sunday’s crucial top of the table clash between Celtic and Glasgow City in the SWPL. We covered the significance of this game yesterday – and it’s live on BBC Alba on Sunday afternoon – and I asked Jodie about two earlier games in the campaign, away to theRangers and Hibs where in both games she scored her first ever goal for the Hoops.

Here’s what we had to say yesterday shortly after Jodie’s Media Conference ended…

You confused? So was Jodie at the time and while she could laugh about it yesterday she was still scratching her head, failing to understand how a referee could blow his whistle for a penalty after she’d hammered the ball into the back of the net. Where’s the advantage in that? Jodie was adamant at the time – and again yesterday when I asked her about the incident – that the whistle had gone AFTER the ball was in the net. And can you guess which club this happened against?  No prizes for that one folks.

Watch the incident at the end of the video below.

It happened in the match at theRangers Training Centre, the game was goalless as it went into stoppage time when Jodie thought she’d won the crucial three points for Celtic, only for the referee to blow his whistle and award Celtic a penalty kick. Thankfully Summer Green hammered the spot kick into the top corner with as good a penalty kick as you’re likely to see so Celtic won anyway.

Here is our post-match coverage at the time where Jodie talks about this refereeing decision that denied here her first ever Celtic goal and more importantly could have denied Celtic the three points.

But that refereeing decision was always something that I was going to ask Jodie about yesterday – as she acknowledged – when the Celtic PR folks decided to invite along some of the fans media. Maybe other than the Cynics, its only really The Celtic Star who has been following the SWPL campaign closely this season, watching the games and reporting on the players coming and going – it was a busy transfer window for Fran Alonso in January and on Sunday we’ll get the chance to see if he’s improved the side.

Celtic’s English star defender Jodie yesterday spoke to me about that penalty and the goal she scored in the next game – away to Hibs – which did count but she was unable to explain the referee’s logic that day at theRangers training centre. At the end of the exchange I tried to help her out, informing her that in Scotland we have a name for this, it’s called an ‘Honest Mistake’ and I reminded her that she the only player this season to win a penalty against any theRangers side, as she laughed away.

You can watch this exchange in the Media Conference below but strangely not the bit about the ‘Honest Mistake’ which seems to have been edited out by Celtic.
