ON THIS DAY, Celtic faced a trip to Ireland to play a friendly match against Sligo Rovers. On our final trip on this day, we look at a trip across the Irish sea to play at the Showgrounds.
The game was settled with a single goal from Rudi Vata as charity was the real winner that day. The game celebrated the roots of both clubs and put some money in the coffers of the Irish side.
The year was 1994 as @CelticFC visited Sligo for a friendly.
Their roots here were celebrated as the club’s founder is a Sligo man while the game benefited a charity as well as Rovers.
It finished 1-0 to the Hoops in front of a huge Showgrounds crowd with floodlights now on. pic.twitter.com/fiGyetG1M2
