Video – Pat Bonner Escapes A Card For This Shocking Tackle In April ’81

BBC Sport have posted a video from the archives, whereby Pat Bonner rushes out to an attacker and wipes him out. The Irishman gets nowhere near the ball, but manages to escape a card for the challenge, which would likely be a sending off in today’s era.

The footage is from the 1981 Scottish Cup Semi-Final Replay at Hampden Park. The match between Celtic and Dundee United was attended by 32,328 fans, who were treated to a five goal thriller.

Extended highlights of the game are being shown on BBC Scotland and the BBC Sport website at 7pm tonight.
