Former Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis scored a powerful header for Greece in this evening’s game against Ireland. The Atlanta Utd forward rose to direct an excellent header into the net on Liam Scales’ first start for his country.

Scales has been a real surprise package thus far after coming in to plug Celtic’s injury-plagued defence. Since then, the Irishman has gone from strength to strength, impressing in the win at Ibrox, in the Champions League and earning his place despite players returning from injury. Stephen Kenny clearly rates the player highly and he started him in Dublin tonight.
Giakoumakis left Celtic in January as the big forward become restless with his lack of starts under Ange Postecoglou. Kyogo was clearly the first pick in the Australian’s eyes and Giakoumakis wanted to maximise his value in wages and start games, leading to a move to MLS. Celtic replaced him with Oh but the young South Korean is yet to replicate the form of his predecessor.
