Shane Duffy shone in the WC Qualifiers tonight as Ireland held Portugal in Dublin. The Brighton central defender was composed at the back despite facing Man Utd’s Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar was left red in the face after Duffy’s quick feet left CR7 in his dust.

The Ireland captain joined Neil Lennon’s team last September on a season-long loan deal and made 27 appearances for his boyhood club, winning a Scottish Cup in the process, thanks to the rearranged 2020 Final. However, personal issues and a disaster season for the club meant that Duffy was unable to find his best form. It is brilliant to see him doing well again.
