Celtic captain Callum McGregor scored the opener for Scotland last night as they took a massive stride towards qualification to the European Championships next year with a win over Georgia. On a night when six days worth of rain fell on Hampden, the game kicked off but it was apparent that the players were toiling with the waterlogged pitch.
This didn’t stop the Celtic skipper from rattling in a right-footed drive after a McGinn corner broke fortuitously in the box.
McGregor’s goal caused significant delays as the referee decided to speak to UEFA delegates as well as the officials from both teams before deciding on an extended break to allow the pitch to receive attention. Fortunately, the game passed the inspection and the match was resumed despite Georgia’s best efforts.
Scotland bossed the game, largely due to the incredible midfield trio of McGregor, Billy Gilmour and Scott McTominay.
The game resumed after half time and McTominay scored a peach. The better team won and on a night of drama in Glasgow, the Scots showed to take it in their stride.
