Video: VAR correctly rules out Rangers goal for foul on Lagerbielke

Rangers thought they had scored the opening goal of this afternoon’s Glasgow Derby after Kemar Roofe netted from close range. The Jamaican forward was played in by Cyriel Dessers, who robbed Gustaf Lagerbielke of the ball, before playing in Roofe.

On first viewing, it looked as if Lagerbielke had simply been outmuscled by Dessers. However, the replays showed that the Swedish central defender had been tripped immediately before the goal. Referee Don Robertson was instructed to attend at the touchline after VAR Alan Muir said he may have missed the foul.

Robertson obliged and confirmed that it was indeed a foul and the correct decision was made.

Celtic should have taken the lead through Kyogo, who actually had another good opportunity in the first half. The Japanese striker won’t care as he scored just before the break.

The game sits at 1-0 with the second half to come.
