We’ve seen a lot of rumours lately about a possible addition to the forward line in January. It certainly looks like another striker will be needed for the second half of the season, but it does make you wonder about the status of Jonathan Afolabi.

He was signed in the Summer after coming through the ranks at Southampton, but he’s yet to play any meaningful first team action.  He played a crucial role for the reserves yesterday as they advanced past Motherwell on penalties in the cup.

It remains to be seen what happens with the young striker, but you have to question how much he will continue to develop without playing senior football.

If there is a new arrival in January then it might make some sense for him to go out on loan, with a view to pushing for more first team football next season.
