Stuart Armstrong’s Southampton career has been very stop-start since he traded the Scottish Champions for the south coast.

However yesterday, the 27-year-old provided an incredible assist in an unbelievable team goal as the relegation contenders defeated Frank Lampard’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

In three and a half years, the midfielder made 144 appearances for Celtic, scoring 28 times and being an integral part of the Invincibles team under Brendan Rodgers.

There were of course rumours that the fine-haired centre-mid might be returning to Celtic in the summer as Ralph Hasenhuttl seemed to prefer others over him; however, as they push back against the relegation trapdoor, Armstrong has been involved more and today’s showing highlights what he is capable of.
