“We should get him at Celtic,” Virgil van Dijk on Andy Robertson

Current Liverpool star, Virgil Van Dijk revealed his previous desire to get Celtic to sign Andy Roberston after watching the now-Scotland captain play for Dundee United against the Bhoys. Van Dijk and Robertson now make up half of Jurgen Klopp’s defensive line in Annfield. Although slightly off form this season, Andy and Virgil have helped the current Liverpool squad compete at the highest levels, domestically and of course the European stage.

The ex-Celtic defender explained that after playing against Robertson, who was at Dundee United at the time, he was impressed and proceeded to discuss with Celtic scouts regarding the possible transfer of Robertson to Paradise. Robertson decided to move to Hull instead, which led him to his next move to Liverpool, where he ended up joining Van Dijk anyway.

Robertson has been a lifelong Celtic fan and recently hinted that he wouldn’t be against a potential move to Paradise if it all falls into place.

Van Dijk opened up to Gary Neville on The Overlap, where he disclosed his previous desire to play alongside the Scottish full-back.

“Robbo is a fantastic player, a pleasure to play with, passionate. He is one of the leaders in my opinion. He is the captain of Scotland and I played against him playing at Celtic when he was at Dundee United,” Virgil van Dijk revealed.

“Funnily enough I was saying to our scouts that we should get him at Celtic. But he went on to Hull, but just in general playing with him has been incredible. I’m hard on him but he’s hard on me and we have that relationship where we want to get the maximum out of each other.”

“Outside the pitch he’s one of the funniest guys in the team and always up for a laugh.”
