Weekend’s unsung Celtic hero included in SPFL Team of the Week

Scott Bain was the Celtic player included in this week’s cinch SPFL Team of the Week. The back-up goalkeeper pulled off a couple of really good saves at Fir Park this past weekend against Motherwell and did extremely well to keep us on course for our eventual winner late into stoppage time.

After Joe Hart’s unfortunate dismissal the previous week at the Toni Macaroni Arena in West Lothian, Scott Bain had to step in and make sure we didn’t rue having not added another goalkeeper to the ranks during the summer transfer window. It was an area where the majority of Celtic supporters felt was a key area of improvement before the closing of business but it never transpired which left us all nervy.

It got mightily worse when Joe flattered into Mo Sangare of Livingston in our last Scottish Premiership outing and left us scrambling a bit. However, credit where it’s due as Bain did have a good, solid game in the sticks for us when we faced the Steelmen and had it not been for those crucial saves, we might not have been celebrating like we did when Willie Collum eventually decided to blow his whistle.

However, just Bain..?

Surely Matt O’Riley gets the nod?!

I'm a Garngad Bhoy through and through. My first ever Celtic game was a friendly against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park, in 2002. Currently a student of English Literature and Education at the University of Strathclyde for my sins. Favourite game would be a toss up between beating Manchester United with that Naka freekick, or the game against the Oldco when Hesselink scored in the dying seconds. I'm still convinced Cal Mac is wasted playing that far back.
