Celtic today announced the signing of Gustavo Lagerbielke from Elfsborg for a fee of around £3 million. The Swedish defender has been brought in to fill the void left by his fellow countryman Carl Starfelt.
Gustavo is highly rated in Sweden and is regarded as one of the best centre backs in the Allsvenskan, he’s even been capped at international level so he’s a player with great pedigree. He stands at 6ft 3 inches and has great strength also. His range of passing is impressive too which will make him suited to Brendan’s style of play.

With doubts just now over the fitness of CCV and the sale of Carl Starfelt a new centre back is just what we need. Maik Nawrocki has also just signed and looks a decent prospect, so we look to be well covered with quality in that area.
Gustavo joins a fellow band of Swedish defenders who made their name at Celtic, like Johan Mjallby, Mikael Lustig and of course Carl Starfelt. Let’s hope Gustavo is as successful as each and everyone of them.
🍀 Gustaf Lagerbielke has joined Celtic on a five-year deal and becomes the club’s sixth summer signing!
