West Brom try to pip Celtic at the post with £3m Romaine Sawyers bid

CELTIC will have to move fast if they are to secure the signing of Romaine Sawyers. Neil Lennon has targeted the Brentford captain who is entering the final year of his contract and is keen on a move.

Celtic’s initial bid of £1.5million was rejected and Lennon was expected to go back with an improved over but that does not appear to have happened.

Now West Brom are hoping to make the Brentford star their next signing with a bid of £3million likely to be made today.

Celtic attempted to sign midfielder Raheem Harper from West Brom. The midfielder was out of contract at the Hawthorns and would have been available for a small cross border development fee. The player even traveled to Celtic Park to check out the stadium on Celtic’s trophy day win over Hearts in May. Lennon had scouted Harper personally in the Championship Play-off semi-final defeat to Aston Villa.

Harper though decided to stay at West Brom, signing a lucrative three year contract.

Celtic appeared to move on to Sawyers but now it looks like West Brom are going to prove a thorn in our side once again as they attempt to nip in ahead of Celtic to sign the Brentford skipper.

The Telegraph’s John Percy reports on the West Brom move for Sawyers this morning.

“West Brom are hoping to make Brentford midfielder Romaine Sawyers their next signing. Would cost around £3m. A deal could progress in the next few days but other clubs are interested,” the reporter revealed.

Presumably Celtic have asked to be kept up to-date with any developments regarding Sawyers by Brentford. Looks like we’ll have to move fast if we are to get the chance to sign Romaine Sawyers, who would be a very decent signing for Celtic.
