West Ham emerge as rivals to Celtic for Preston defender

WEST HAM have emerged as rivals to Celtic for Preston North End’s Ben Davies. The 25-year-old English defender is out of contract next summer and is free to discuss terms with a new team in January.

As per Sunday Mirror (print ed) , David Moyes is keen on raiding his former club for the defender and knows that he can get him, if Preston want to cash in on their asset.

Celtic will be hoping that Preston hold out until the end of the English window (which is Friday) and mean that he can sign with the Scottish Champions.

With over 100 appearances in the Championship with Preston, Davies is likely to want a challenge in a new setting and Celtic can offer him more in terms of European football and the opportunity to compete for trophies.

Celtic will be keen to retain Kris Ajer this season amidst interest from a variety of clubs and the signing of Shane Duffy suggests that Neil Lennon could be covered in the defensive areas. Although a pre-contract could be shrewd business by the recruitment team as it means that the club save on the transfer fee.

Davies would be a good addition and his ability to play on the left of defence will be favourable should Neil Lennon look to play 3-5-2.
