“What a great opportunity to put it right at Ibrox,” John Hartson

John Hartson today reflected on Celtic’s last two performances against Kilmarnock in the League Cup and St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend and concluded that it was simply not good enough from the team

And the former Celtic striker encouraged the current crop of Celtic players to go and do something about it by putting on a show and picking up the three points at Ibrox on Sunday in the first Glasgow Derby of the season.

Celtic failed to score in both those matches and that has the support on edge. However getting a result at the weekend would see Celtic move five points clear of Michael Beale’s side who face a huge challenge in Eindhoven on Wednesday night in the second leg of their Champions League play-off with PSV with a place in Thursday’s group stages draw the prize for the winners.

That tie is currently sitting at 2-2 after the first leg at Ibrox and a huge effort from theRangers could result in tired legs at the weekend.

Hartson today posted a video message but he doesn’t talk about theRangers Champions League fixture and his message isn’t directed at Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers either. As a former Celtic striker, who played, scored and won matches against Rangers FC many times, Hartson’s words today are directed straight at the Celtic players who will play at Ibrox this weekend, without the backing of a Celtic support.

“This weekend, what a great opportunity to put it right at Ibrox. It will be intense, it will be fast. Players mentality – get it right this weekend. Do the right thing, get on board, take responsibility,” Hartson said.

“Never mind Brendan Rodgers. Brendan can set them up, he can put the team out, he can do the formation. The players. The players have to go and play. Make sure that you get it right and all the very best. We’ve done it many times before, go and do it again,” Big Bad John said.
