Amid increasing turmoil in and around Celtic, the club are actively seeking a new Head of Business Operations…
As pressure intensifies and support for the club hierarchy is at boiling point, the Celtic board seems to be seeking external assistance. The club has announced the creation of a new role — Head of Business Operations — and has begun the search for the right candidate.
The position is entirely new to the club’s setup, and although it appears to be a standard corporate role at first glance, parts of the job listing catch the eye — particularly for majority of us in the fanbase who continue to call for clearer communication, transparency and a defined football strategy.
The role states: “The opportunity has arisen to join Celtic in the role of Head of Business Operations. This role is fundamental to ensuring that supporter services are delivered in a way which ensures world class supporter service is in place.”
“It will encompass a broad range of supporter services including the oversight of all retail operations, ticketing, hospitality sales, and stadium services.”
The mention of “world class supporter service” will raise a few eyebrows, and understandably so.
Following months of frustration, demonstrations, open letters, undermining the manager and an abysmal transfer window, it is clear those in senior executive roles are out of touch.
There is nothing world class about Celtic at the moment. Certainly not on the pitch. And most definitely not in the way the club acts off it. The “world class football club in whatever we do” phrase was coined by Michael Nicholson at Brendan Rodgers’ unveiling more than two years ago.
Two years down the line and that statement can be laughed (regrettably) out of town. World class at terrible transfer windows and inadequate recruitment? World class at awful statements? Is that what Michael was meaning?
If so, he may well have had a point, the same as Celtic has after two games in the Europa League, a after that world class mess they made of the Champions League qualification against a team we’d never even heard of previously. World class at losing £40m from that fiasco.
Anyway, a new Head of Business Operations may be a small step in the right direction for regular, clearer communication to supporters. Yesterday was not a good day for communications at all as far as both the Celtic support and the club are concerned.
Leaked, emotive and partial content from Monday night’s meeting from a few of the supporters in attendance led to a summary of events having to be released by the Celtic Fans Collective and then Celtic FC issuing a statement outlining an entirely difference view, which no-one commenting in the club’s X post was in any mood to accept.

What a mess has been made of this. The best advice now is to wait for the minutes to be agreed by both parties – club and supporters – and then read what was said and make our own minds up.
The supporters at the meeting who couldn’t keep their mouths shut should be not be involved going forward.

The recruiting of Rodgers v2 is where this all started.
After Ange the board wanted control. Rodgers was on his knees and not even Brechin City would’ve offered him a job.
Our gracious board offered him the job knowing he wouldn’t rock the boat and they could start giving returns to the shareholders instead of wasting it on players.
Seeing the tribute act out of Ibrox where light years behind us the decision was just to keep finishing first and glide into the Champions league an bank 40 million, then the coefficient fell and we were having to go through qualifiers once again.
Then they thought if we just beat this no name team we are in and we will make these signings that were being touted. Unfortunately they forgot that Celtic can’t get results away even against minnows and we were bundled out.
Next day all these names we had been talking to (and Vardy) all signed for other teams as playing in Scotland is unappealing with no Champions league games playing on plastic pitches, Saturday afternoon gammes in torrential rain and wind in the highlands.
The fish rots from the head down and by now the tail is pungent.
The owner and board being so our of touch and lame is the only reason fans aren’t lynching Rodgers.for the boring and uninspiring football his team is playing.
His style is stale and basic, when he had left over of Angeball mixed with his style things looked OK but since we have gone back to his game plan we look as bad as we did before he left last time.
The board going is paramount, as is the Scouting team.
If Desmond loves this club like he claims then he should sell to someone interested in bringing back pride to this club and make us a team no one in Europe wants to draw in their group.
Then they might bring in a real manager that changes things on the fly and has more than one idea in his head, not a Muppet that couldn’t dominate with the team he had at Liverpool and got Leicester relegated.
This is the lowest the club has ever been. The 90s sucked but the team had spirit and were on an unlevel playing field as Rangers were blatantly cheating.
I never thought it would happen that I would feel so disgusted and frustrated with a team that has been my religion for half a century. Especially while we are at the top of the table but that is more a reflection on how bad Scottish football has become than the quality of player we field.
