What Celtic Board must do to bring unity back to the club

Brendan Rodgers pulled no punches in his scheduled press conference ahead of Celtic’s trip to Rugby Park, and without naming names, he eluded to those he believes are guilty of holding the club back, and trying to sabotage his own good name.

Earlier in the international break, a so-called Celtic Insider briefed against the Celtic manager in the Sun newspaper and having his say on this Brednan Rodgers described it as a cowardly act and called for the club to investigate the matter and for the person responsible to resign.

Rodgers was savvy enough to not name names

Rodgers was savvy enough to not name names, and even half heartedly defended his bosses, but we all know his true feelings deep down and those in charge whilst incompetent on most matters will have got that message loud and clear. In fact he went out of his way to heap praise on Celtic’s largest shareholder Dermot Desmond who ultimately is the man in charge at Celtic. He also had positive words for the likes of CEO Michael Nicholson and Finance Director Chris McKay but that was that as far as name-checks were concerned.

That left the Celtic support speculating and reaching their own conclusions

And that left the Celtic support speculating on the lack of mentions for other prominent figures inside the Celtic Boardroom.

Brendan Rodgers also made it abundantly clear that under no circumstances will he walk away from the Celtic job of his own accord, stating that it if he were to leave it would be out of his control, thus receiving his P45.

That is quite the conundrum for the hierarchy as they can ill afford to even contemplate handing the Irishman his jotters. Rodgers noted that he was also briefed upon during his first spell at Celtic and that plus the club’s failure to show the necessary ambition he believed was needed to restore the club’s reputation on the European front, made him leave in February 2019 to take the job at Leicester City.

Financially Celtic can afford to sack Rodgers without a doubt, this is a club sitting on a cash-pile as big win at Neosurf online casino Australia, but it would most likely cost them their own jobs and the Celtic Directors are all savvy enough to know this, self preservation and all that.

Dismissing the manager for what?

Dismissing the manager for what? For responding to a Celtic Insider bad-mouthing him in the Sun, a a newspaper that Celtic supporters have little time for. They know it would cause an even greater division between them and the supporters, where at the moment the relationship is broken and in desperate need of repair after a dreadful transfer window cost the club a place in the Champions League and a subsequent statement released on a Saturday evening at 9pm that entirely failed to read the room.

If the Celtic Board think the heat is on just now, firing Brendan would raise it beyond melting point. Brendan knows this, and more importantly so do his bosses.

So where does Celtic go from here?

So where does Celtic go from here? Brendan Rodgers is safe until the end of the season and he is even open to staying beyond the end of his contract for another three years IF the club finally show the ambition that the supporters are demanding alongside the manager.

By doing that Celtic will not only bring security to the management structure but will also have Rodgers explaining the assurances he has been given to convince him to sign a new contract. Next Michael Nicholson, who prefers to operate away from the public glare, would have to step forward and sit alongside Rodgers at a media conference to announce the manager’s new deal and the club’s commitment to delivering the ambition sought. That plus an apology to the Celtic support for the events of this summer and that should be that.

The alternative brings uncertainty

The alternative brings uncertainty with a new manager coming in next season and there’s no doubt that this will have a negative impact in the dressing room among the Celtic squad as the players will understand that Rodgers is leaving the club he supports because the chance to compete is the Champions League – as we did last season – is not a boardroom priority.

And the Celtic support, with all major supporters groups having past votes of no confidence in the Celtic Board, will continue to protest and organise themselves for a battle with the suits that can’t be good for Celtic.

So the solution is there

So the solution is there. Other than some eating some humble pie, issuing a sincere apology and spending some of that money that the supporters themselves have shovelled into the club’s coffers, it’s all rather straight-forward.

Dermot Desmond, the Irish billionaire who will ultimately make the call on this, doesn’t like being told what to do. However he is a highly intelligent businessman and has a genuine love of Celtic Football Club. He is going to do what he thinks will be the right way to go for Celtic. Hopefully it’s aligned with the views of the current manager and the united voice of the Celtic support.

We’ll find out which way it’s to go soon enough.

  1. Got a totally different perspective on your views.

Remain unconvinced by Rodgers involvement within the shitshow over the summer, a reoccurring theme with him in his position?

Now his case would be far stronger if we were playing exciting attractive attacking football, but we aren’t.
So where does the blame lay upon that?

Players getting totally dismissed, as his playing system takes preference, especially with his favourite players taking priority in getting game time, hence footballing decisions being clouded, and possibly still not able to get the best for our team because of the likes imo.

The board have always got the sacking card to play, if they so wish, especially with the demands of change so high within our support at present.

That card is always available within the footballing world, for any manager these days.
Personally don’t believe it would be right to play the likes at present, but offering a new contract to Rodgers would be far worse for ourselves at present imo?

  2. Don’t want to be super pedantic, you wrote “eluded” instead of “alluded”, wouldn’t have called it out but you wrote it twice. Hail Hail

  3. Never mind Where’s Wally? Looking at that rogues gallery with McKay & Nicholson at Killy i can’t help but notice the absence of ‘Liewell The Coward’. Just sayin’.

    • Why are you embedding adverts for betting sites in your articles? Ffs, you can do better. Disgusted that a quality outlet like TCS would stoop that low.

  4. More shite football played yesterday and your all still scrambling to heap praise on Rodgers ,the elite fraud still hasn’t improved anyone and still won’t drop the duds , Hatate is a shadow of the player we first signed , our £11 midfielder spends time on the bench ,replaced by sweaty bollocks who just runs around getting in the way
Bernardo ,,,ignored ,,,,not improved and were still having to rely on wee jamsie
