Where art thou Marco? When will we see Tilio?

Will we be seeing Marco anytime soon?…

Marco Tilio was brought to the club in the summer from Melbourne City for a sum of £2 million. A fee which is believed to be a record for an outgoing player in the A- league. Just think how much he might have cost had he been fit! Usually ahead of a deal being done, there’s a medical and the purpose of that is to establish whether the player is fit to play or pick up on any injuries that he may be carrying.

Tilio was also a signing for Celtic from the Mark Lawwell led scouting and recruitment department at Celtic and the incoming manager Brendan Rodgers is likely to have known as much about the winger as you and me.

Yet Celtic seemed to be aware that Marco was indeed injured – with the early reports saying that it was minor – so we thought we have to wait a two or three weeks before seeing him in action. No-one reckoned that after three months there would be no sign of our Aussie winger.

Marco is also an Australian international and is hight rated indeed. He was of course unfortunately carrying an injury when he signed and has only just recently returned to full fitness, playing a couple of times for the Celtic B side. That begs the question, will be seeing him anytime soon?

He’s somewhat fell off the radar a bit and we haven’t seemed to have heard anything regarding his comeback. If he’s played in a couple of Celtic B side games then surely he’s in contention for a place in the first team squad? The feedback from those games from the coaches Darren O’Dea and Stephen McManus will have been given to Brendan Rodgers who also sees the players in training.

With injury’s to Liel Abada and Daizen Maeda apparently struggling with a minor injury, plus Yang has been a bit below par lately, isn’t it a perfect time to introduce Marco to the match-day squad to see what he can do? However the run of tough fixtures starting with Hearts away before Atletico Madrid in the Champions League then back to Edinburgh to play Hibs suggests that it’s not really the time to bring in a new player who will be playing for the first time.

Far be it from me to question Brendan, but isn’t it time Marco was given a shot in the squad perhaps just a seat on the bench? Or is it a case of he’s not rated by the Irishman after he’s had a chance to see the player in training? Brendan’s job is to play the best team to give us the best chance of winning and a starting spot needs to be earned and  deserved.

Hopefully Marco will deserve his chance soon or questions will start to be asked about his signing while carrying an injury.

”Where art thou? Marco?….
