Why BCD Football could start soon but Nicola Sturgeon says, ‘Let me be clear, big gatherings and events are off for some months to come’

SCOTLAND’S FIRST MINISTER today confirmed that ‘Big gathering and events’ will NOT be taking place for some months to come, signalling that we will not be back watching the football until 2021.

However considering what Nicola Sturgeon said today there is more hope that we will be able to play games Behind Closed Doors. The idea that this is going to be possible elsewhere but not in Scotland is ludicrous and will be strongly resisted by football clubs and supporters up and down the country. Indeed the First Minister could succeed in uniting Scottish football against any such ban on BCD football – and that would be a remarkable first!

Her concern seems to be that people will gather as happened in the Paris after the PSG Champions League match last month. It should be noted that her Government did not prevent the Rangers Europa league match taking place in the same week at Ibrox, in front of a packed 50,000 capacity stadium. One supporter, sadly lost his life, apparently as reported as a consequence of attending that game and being infected with the coronavirus.

These scenes in Paris happened before France got to grips with the devastating pandemic and would not be repeated post lockdown.

Nicola Sturgeon has a tough job, everyone appreciates that and she has been doing it very well. If the call is no large gatherings then we will have to accept that. However that does not mean that it is unsafe for teams to be prevented from playing behind closed doors. If builders can return to work so too can professional footballers who can be tested as often as she likes for coronavirus.

The Scottish Government could introduce measures to prevent gatherings happening at BCD games and clubs and fans sites would all do their bit in ensuring that fans stay away. Heavy fines could be imposed for those who break the rules and turn up at grounds.

If Scottish football can get the green light for BCD football, a summer schedule could be organised to play out the remaining games for this season.

Incidentally over on Follow Follow they are now accepting that given UEFA’s intentions becoming public today regarding titles being decided on sporting merit if they cannot be finished, that Celtic should get the Champions League spot – as we are currently 13 points ahead.  Very nice of them. However Celtic cannot apparently be crowned as Champions because we never won the league.

Only in Scotland. Go over to  Blue Moon, the main Manchester City forum to see if there are any similar points were being made regarding denying Liverpool the status of English Champions should the games not be played. Nothing doing there, of course, only an issue for the warped.

So if all leagues are called early – and hopefully they won’t and we can play BCD football shortly – then the teams leading the leagues all around Europe will be Champions. Teams like Dundee Utd, Raith Rovers and Barry Ferguson’s Kelty Hearts will be Champions in their respective leagues but not Celtic in the bitter, twisted  and ignorant minds of the vile Rangers support.

So let’s play the games behind closed doors, Nicola? You know it makes sense!

Here’s what the First Minister had to say today…

CELTIC now need to tell us what we can get for our season tickets for next season, even though we are unlikely to attend a game until after Christmas. If that means access to all the games on Celtic TV and one or two other entitlements – the club could send every season ticket a copy of the 9IAR DVD for instance – then we have to accept this and where personal financial circumstances – allow, renew as usual.

Gate receipts are more important to clubs in Scotland the elsewhere in Europe in that this is where the bulk of the revenue comes from to keep the clubs going, Celtic included. This is illustrated in the tweet below which shows the European wide percentages of income that clubs derive from gate receipts.

This is about FUTURE Celtic and Celtic’s FUTURE. So on we go, to Ten-in-a-Row! Let’s support Celtic and RENEW if we can.
