Why Steven Gerrard is completely ‘Obsessed with Celtic’

Steven Gerrard appears to be ‘Obsessed with CELTIC’ – ahead of his latest meeting with Aberdeen on Sunday all that the rookie Rangers manager wants to talk about is CELTIC. It appears that Aberdeen seem to try harder against his side than they do against CELTIC and the former CELTIC supporter isn’t happy about it at all.

“Aberdeen play different against Rangers. That’s what I’ve noticed. They certainly raise their game. It seems as if Rangers is their biggest game of the season.

“We’re fully expecting a very tough game, so we’ll have to be at it.

“Do they try harder against Rangers? That’s the way it looks on the eye. We watched them last week against CELTIC and they never laid a finger on CELTIC in the semi-final.

“They obviously come to play against Rangers and bring their A game. They’re very physical and they definitely lift their game against Rangers, that’s for sure.

“I’m not saying they don’t raise their game against CELTIC but they have found their form definitely against Rangers.

“And having watched them against CELTIC a few weeks ago it wasn’t the performance you expect from Aberdeen if you look at their performances against Rangers,” Gerrard told the media, as reported by Scottish Sun.

Derek McInnes hit back as the latest nonsense coming out of the rookie Rangers boss’ mouth. Gerrard started his managerial career at Pittodrie where after a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the season he stated that Rangers (sic) had proved themselves to be ‘a class above’ Aberdeen and the Dons boss has been using that as motivation ever since to knock the Ibrox side out of both cups and to inflict a home defeat on Gerrard’s side in the league.

“We raise our game every game. They shouldn’t flatter themselves,” McInnes, who rejected the Rangers job before it was offered to the former CELTIC supporter Gerrard, replied.

“We don’t always get the results, our home form could have been better this season, especially the second half, but our away form has been second to none.

“We have had six years of solid work and we have raised our game time and again against every opponent. Naturally it is a big game against Rangers, our players will enjoy it,” the Scottish Sun reported.

Last April The Celtic Star reported on what was said at Andy Lynch’s book launch about Stephen Gerrard and his affection for CELTIC. The article was titled ‘Celtic, that’s my team, that’s who I support,’ Steven Gerrard and here’s some of what was written…

Andy Lynch, ex-Celtic Captain speaking at the launch of his book, ‘Hoops, Stars and Stripes’ in late 2016 recalled his memories of meeting Gerrard and this what he said about CELTIC.

“The decisive factor could be that he is a real Celtic man. That took me by surprise when I met him at half-time during a Liverpool game at Stoke. I had travelled up from London with the club owners, Hicks and Gillett, to be guests of Liverpool. Gerrard wasn’t playing so at half-time he was introduced to me.

“It was him (Gerrard) who brought up the subject of Celtic and you could see he was pretty excited talking about it. He said ‘that’s my team, that’s who I support.’

“Obviously, I’m sure he’s got a great love for Liverpool and I’m not saying Celtic would have been a greater love. But he was very adamant about his passion for Celtic and said whenever he gets opportunities he would come up and see them because that was his team when he was younger.

“Then he told me he has a Celtic strip framed at home and it has Lynch on the back of it.

“So I’m racking my brains thinking I have played in a few testimonials against Liverpool but it was before his time – and then it dawned on me.

“I said to him ‘that’s my son’s shirt’. When Simon was at Celtic he played in Ronnie Moran’s testimonial at Anfield. I don’t know where Simon’s put Gerrard’s shirt but the fact we know where that Celtic jersey is says a lot.”
