Wigan Athletic FC have signed the Bayern Munich and Celtic Academy defender, Liam Morrison, on a season-long loan deal.
Liam Morrison is a 20-year-old defender who came through the youth ranks at Celtic before making a move to Germany to join Bayern Munich in 2019 after rejecting a deal at Celtic. A single season at the German giant saw Morrison promoted from the U17 squad to the U20 squad in July 2020.
The past two seasons have seen Morrison playing as a regular for Bayern Munich 2. He made his first appearance in the Bundesliga in May as an unused substitute in Munich’s 2-1 victory at Werder Bremen.
Recently earning his first 5 caps for the Scottish U21s hasn’t gone unnoticed as Wigan has secured the young player on a season-long loan. Wigan Athletic FC is currently managed by ex-Celtic player and youth coach Shaun Maloney, so this may prove a useful connection for the young player as he traditions into the side.

A move to Germany wasn’t an easy task for the young Scotsman, but this most recent move poses a different type of challenge. This will be Morrison’s first loan spell in senior football, so hopefully he will be able to rise to the challenge, in playing in a tough, no-nonsense league.
